THAI YOGA MASSAGE

What is Thai Yoga Massage?

Thai Yoga Massage is believed to have been developed by Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, physician to Buddha, more than 2,500 years ago in India. It made its way to Thailand, where the Ayurvedic techniques and principles gradually became influenced by Traditional Chinese Medicine. For centuries, Thai Yoga Massage was performed by monks as a key component of Thai medicine.

How does it work?

Thai Yoga Massage is more energizing and rigorous than more classic forms of massage. The therapist uses her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches. Muscle compression, joint mobilization and acupressure are used during treatment. The session includes rhythmic pressing and stretching of the entire body while encouraging deep breathing, relaxation and release.

The massage generally follows the Sen lines on the body, somewhat analogous to energy meridians in Chinese Medicine and nadis in Indian Yogic tradition. The idea is to stimulate the sen and move lom (air – the breath of life) through the body via a pumping action which is connected with the client’s breathing.

  • Thai Herbal Ball Compress

Thai Herbal Massage incorporates the use of a heated compress that is made of ground Thai herbs wrapped tightly in a natural porous cloth, usually unbleached cotton or muslin. The Herbal Ball is steamed to stimulate the herbs and then pressed or rolled on the body during, before or after a Thai Yoga Massage. The heated ball allows the muscles and joints of the body greater movement and flexibility.

The herbs themselves are absorbed through the skin and used in the body to facilitate release of energy blockages and stagnation. Some of the herbs have drawing properties that allow removal of inflammation and swelling typical with injuries & chronic pain. Ideal for support with detoxification, circulatory & lymphatic stagnation, aches & pains, inflammation and stiffness.
